South Korea is one of Australias top trading partners and a major supplier of motor vehicles, machinery, steel products, and electronics, with Hyundai and Kia vehicles alone representing a significant share of Australian new car sales. KAFTA, in force since December 2014, has eliminated or substantially reduced duties on the vast majority of Korean goods, making preferential origin documentation critical to achieving duty savings.
Goods originating in South Korea may qualify for preferential duty rates under KAFTA. Goods must meet the rules of origin and be accompanied by a valid certificate of origin.
